One principal function of the associated institute FORGIS is the initiation and monitoring of co-operations between partners from the fields of industry and science in the interests of the development of innovative products and services.

The strategic objectives of this are to strengthen the readiness and ability to innovate within the relevant companies, to broaden the knowledge base and the collaboration between universities and, in particular, small and medium-sized companies, and to provide practical support.

Within the framework of research and development projects, and in the interests of initiating such projects, FORGIS uses its various research programmes in order to investigate suitable further topics and projects for research, and takes over the management of applications for funds, both on a national and a European level.

If necessary, FORGIS will not only carry out the project management of research and development projects but will also accompany them on a scientific level, and in such instances the close connection between FORGIS and the Saarland College of Technology and Commerce (Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft (HTW) des Saarlandes) means that there will always be the opportunity to use the technical infrastructure.
